2021 – 2022
Ghost Nets and Phantom Islands: Mapping the Anthropocene is a collaboration with Dr Ben Smith funded by the Creative Associates Fellowship at the Sustainable Earth Institute, University of Plymouth.
Through a combination of visual art and creative writing, Rose and Ben have created maps and fictional travel accounts of journeys through the Anthropocene. Rose’s imagery explores deep sea mining by playing with cartographic scales and traditions, the changing world of the Arctic using the cartographies of a Chakut sealskin in the Pitt Rivers Museum in Oxford. Other maps explore mining, soil erosion, shipping container routes and remembered journeys.
